Apr 21, 2016 · Hi Ruth, thanks for the guide. I have a DS415+ that I must have started using before “Backup and Restore” (B&R) became “Hyper Backup”. With B&R, encrypted shared folders were directly transferred to the external device, that is, they were still encrypted with the same key that was used on the Synology itself.

Nov 16, 2015 · Synology is a great consumer/SMB storage provider that provides a rich set of features. Encrypted folders are part of that rich feature set. If you are considering leveraging encrypted folders be sure to check out the 7 things I listed above. For more information about encrypted folders, see my future posts or the official Synology KB. We use Synology C2 directly from the NAS and when you encrypt it creates a key that you can download and save (a .pem file) and you create a password. This encrypts the data in transit and at the remote end. That way even if Synology C2 is compromised then the data is encrypted and can't be read. It doesn't encrypt the source. Dec 01, 2017 · If you have two synology NASes there are a lot of ways for you to backup your data. You can backup your data using: File station : Drag and drop files between NASes Cloud Station ShareSync: One/Two way sync for files and folders that change frequently in real time (hot storage). Aug 28, 2017 · Although the Synology NAS platform—including the Disk Station Manager operating system that runs on it and the propriety automated Synology Hybrid Raid (SHR)—is a rock solid and easy way to back up data from your computers, it suffers, by the very nature of things, from some of the same issues that plague any always-on backup system. Hyper Backup – The main Synology backup solution. First is the new backup solution named Hyper Backup. This is the primary backup for the diskstation. You can backup important configuration files, application configuration files and other folders you chose with both compression and client-side encryption if you wish.

Nov 19, 2019 · Synology DSM relies on the built-in Key Manager to store encryption keys. Stored encryption keys allow users mounting their encrypted shares automatically once the Synology NAS boots up; otherwise, the passphrase must be entered on every boot. ABB is able to protect VMs but is designed to operate locally with the hypervisor. A better approach would be to leverage ABB locally, then use Hyper Backup to send the backup repository to a remote NAS. At the remote site, the installation of ABB will be able to recover the backups and perform the restoration. Apr 27, 2020 · **Note - HyperBackup uses the incremental backup method so only new data is backed up during each run, after the initial run. Final Thoughts Backing up your NAS with Synology Hyperbackup and AWS is a great way to protect your data while minimizing costs. The cloud backup service supports 10-series to 16-series of Synology devices. Apart from the free 2GB plan, paid plans start at $9.99 per month for 1TB of data, and $39.95 per month for 2TB of data. Should backups, directly plugged into the Synology NAS box take this long? If I dragged and dropped from my windows computer to the NAS box I would get considerably faster speeds. Both are connected with cat6 cable and the NAS confirms a 1gigabit connection. However, I want to do a backup where I cut out any involvement from a windows computer.
